Intro
Kittiwake A is a fixed steel production and processing platform in Block-21/18 of the UK Central North Sea, commissioned in 1990. It initially produced hydrocarbons from the Kittiwake field and now serves as a hub for the Greater Kittiwake Area, receiving tie-backs from satellite fields. Drilling facilities were decommissioned in 2009.
Field
The Kittiwake oil field lies in Block-21/18 at about 85–90-m water depth. The field produces Upper Jurassic Fulmar Formation oil and associated gas. With the field’s own production declining, the platform now processes fluids from satellite Goosander, Grouse, Gadwall, Mallard and related areas, collectively known as the Greater Kittiwake Area.
Facilities
Kittiwake A’s steel jacket supports production and processing facilities configured for multiphase separation, gas compression and water handling. While original drilling facilities have been removed, the platform continues to receive hydrocarbons from subsea tie-backs. Fluids are processed through stabilisation and separation trains; oil is metered and exported via the Greater Kittiwake Area export pipeline to the Forties Pipeline System through the Unity platform, and processed gas is utilised for fuel/gas lift with surplus exported via a small diameter line to the SEGAL gas pipeline. Produced water treatment facilities handle effluent per regulatory standards. Utilities include onboard power generation, HVAC, firewater and safety systems, and control rooms coordinating operations and export interfaces. Accommodation supports personnel, and control and safety systems ensure stable long-term operation of multiple field tie-backs into the hub facility.
