Intro
Troll-A is a concrete gravity base structure (Condeep) natural gas production and processing platform in the Troll field of the northern North Sea. Installed in 1995 and on stream from 1996, it primarily handles gas from the Troll Øst reservoir, with associated condensate, and exports to the onshore Kollsnes processing plant.
Field
The Troll field, discovered in 1979, is one of Norway’s largest gas accumulations. Troll Øst and Vest reservoirs comprise Jurassic sandstones with significant gas and condensate. The field is a cornerstone of Norwegian gas exports, with integrated infrastructure to shore and subsea tie-backs for long-term recovery.
Facilities
Troll-A’s concrete base supports integrated topsides for separation, compression and gas export. It receives gas and condensate from field wells and subsea tie-backs (including from Troll B and C), performing three-phase separation and initial dehydration. Gas is metered and exported via a dedicated pipeline to the Kollsnes onshore terminal for further conditioning and export. Condensate is separated and routed in multiphase lines. Power is supplied from shore, feeding process units and utilities, while onboard systems include water handling, flare and safety shutdown systems, and high-capacity gas compressors. The GBS anchors the structure in ~300-m water depth, providing stability and buoyancy, with integrated risers for gas export and topside modules for long-term service.
