Intro

Troll-B is a floating concrete gravity-based production platform located in the Troll West area of the Norwegian North Sea, brought on stream in the mid-1990s to produce oil and condensate. It operates with interconnected infrastructure to Troll A and C, exporting oil via pipelines and routing gas through shared facilities.

Field

The Troll field’s West area comprises oil and condensate reserves within Jurassic sandstones associated with the larger Troll gas province. Discovered in 1979, the field’s development includes multiple platforms exploiting both gas and oil sections. Troll B focuses on oil from Troll Vest, tied into broader export networks.

Facilities

Troll-B’s concrete gravity base structure hosts production wells and topside facilities for oil/gas separation. Oil from subsea templates is processed, with condensate extracted and transferred into the Troll Oil Pipeline System to Mongstad. Associated gas is routed via pipelines to Troll A and onward to Kollsnes for dehydration, compression and export. The platform includes utility systems for power generation, accommodation and process control. Recent offshore electrification ties into shore power to reduce emissions on Troll B and C, with local gas-fired turbines retained for export compression and backup power. Onboard gas handling includes dehydration, metering and safety shutdown systems. Structural design supports deepwater stability and integration with subsea templates and shared export infrastructure.
