Intro
The Garrow platform is a normally unattended installation (NUI) in the Garrow gas field, Southern North Sea, installed in 2006 with a small steel jacket and minimal topsides to host two production wells. It exported gas via subsea pipelines to the Kilmar platform (NUI) and onwards through the Trent host infrastructure to the Bacton Gas Terminal before shutdown and decommissioning planning commenced.
Field
The Garrow field, in Blocks 42/25a and 43/21a of the Southern North Sea, produces dry gas from Rotliegend sandstone reservoirs discovered in 1991. Production began in 2007 with two wells drilled from the Garrow platform. Gas was routed to Kilmar then to the Trent complex for export, but export closure in 2020 led to field shutdown and decommissioning applications.
Facilities
Garrow’s installation comprised a fixed steel jacket with a single small deck hosting two producing wellheads and Xmas trees, a basic manifold, and connection points for an 8-inch export pipeline (PL2160) and piggyback 3-inch service line (PL2161) to the Kilmar platform. There were no significant separation or compression facilities; gas flowed untreated into Kilmar’s NUI and then via the Trent host compression and processing infrastructure to shore. Garrow’s utility systems were limited to remote-operated safety shutdown valves, chemical injection for corrosion and hydrate mitigation, and instrument power supplied locally for control and monitoring. The platform operated unmanned, with periodic maintenance access, and integrated automatic ESD and fire/gas detection compliant with UKCS safety standards. Structural design accounted for operational loading and environmental conditions in ~53-m water depth. With export closure, the installation is in Hydrocarbon Safe status pending decommissioning.
