Intro
The Boulton Wellhead Platform is a fixed steel wellhead installation in the UK southern North Sea, Block 47/3b. Installed in 1990, it serves as the primary drilling and production location for the Boulton gas field. The platform exports well fluids via pipeline to nearby processing infrastructure.
Field
The Boulton gas field is located in the southern North Sea gas basin and produces from Permian Leman Sandstone reservoirs. Developed as a modest gas accumulation, it was brought onstream using a simple fixed wellhead platform tied back to existing processing facilities.
Facilities
The platform supports multiple gas production wells with surface wellheads and manifolds. Well fluids are routed via subsea pipeline to a host platform for full processing and export. Onboard facilities are limited to well control, chemical injection for flow assurance, pressure monitoring, and safety systems. Power and communications are provided via subsea or pipeline-mounted umbilicals. The installation is normally unattended, with remote operation from shore or host facilities. Safety infrastructure includes emergency shutdown valves, fire and gas detection, and basic firefighting systems. The fixed steel jacket and compact topsides are designed for long-term service with minimal intervention, reflecting its role as a dedicated wellhead platform rather than a processing hub.
