Zohr
Zohr is an ultra-deep-water subsea gas development in Egypt’s Shorouk concession. First gas was produced in December 2017. Located almost 200 kilometres north of Port Said in roughly 1,450–1,500 metres of water, it has no offshore production host; subsea wells and manifolds send untreated gas through long export pipelines to the El Gamil onshore treatment complex.

Field
Zohr lies in the Egyptian sector of the eastern Mediterranean’s Levant Basin. It is a supergiant, predominantly lean-gas accumulation contained in a large Miocene carbonate buildup with reefal and platform-margin facies. The field covers approximately 100 square kilometres and is developed as a phased, long-distance subsea-to-shore system rather than through an offshore processing platform.
Facilities
The first development phase comprised six subsea production wells; later phases expanded the installed system to 13 producing wells by 2019. Vertical subsea trees, wellheads, tie-in structures and production manifolds gather the wellstreams. Steel-tube electro-hydraulic umbilicals provide hydraulic power, electrical supply, communications and chemical services from an offshore control platform, while subsea pressure-protection equipment safeguards the long export system. Zohr performs no full hydrocarbon processing at the well sites. Multiphase gas and liquids are transferred to shore through three export pipelines, including two 30-inch lines extending approximately 216 kilometres to the El Gamil treatment facilities near Port Said. An 8-inch service pipeline and extensive umbilical network support hydrate control, chemical delivery and subsea operation. The second 30-inch export line entered service in 2019 and connected the southern production area to the onshore plant. El Gamil contains eight gas-treatment trains. Permanent processing includes inlet separation, gas dehydration and conditioning, condensate and produced-water handling, monoethylene-glycol regeneration and sulphur-removal facilities before treated gas enters Egypt’s national transmission network. The offshore system includes manifolds, flowlines, jumpers, control modules, high-integrity pressure protection and remotely operated isolation equipment. Zohr has no offshore storage or tanker-loading installation.
