Blythe

The Blythe platform is a normally unmanned installation (NUI) fixed steel gas production platform in the UK Southern North Sea. Installed around 2021, it supports gas production and export from the Blythe field as part of the Saturn Banks Project. It interfaces with the Thames pipeline system for onward delivery to the Bacton terminal.

Field

The Blythe field is one of the Saturn Banks Project gas reservoirs in the Southern North Sea, developed alongside Southwark and Elgood. The reservoir is Rotliegend sandstone gas with associated condensate, in relatively shallow water (~30 m). Development aims to tie production into existing export infrastructure to Bacton.

Facilities

The Blythe platform comprises a fixed minimum facilities structure with a small topside and tripod/monotower jacket designed for unmanned operation. It includes one production well with infrastructure for flowline connection and tie-backs from near subsea wells (e.g., Elgood). Produced gas is separated at minimal facilities on the platform and routed via a buried 12-inch export pipeline (~24.5 km) to tie-in with the recommissioned Thames pipeline (PL370) for transport to the Bacton terminal. Utilities focus on low-power control systems, remote monitoring, and flow assurance chemical injection. There is typically provision for emergency shelter but no permanent accommodation. Power and control are remotely managed from onshore facilities with SCADA links; basic safety and firefighting systems comply with NUI standards. The structure supports condensate handling, metering for export, and subsea control umbilicals for flowline operations.
