Clipper PM

The Clipper PM platform is part of the Clipper gas installation in the UK Southern North Sea. As a metering/compression platform within the Sole Pit area, it handles natural gas from its own field and several adjacent reservoirs. The installation is bridge-linked with other fixed jackets and supports export to the Bacton Gas Terminal.

Field

The Clipper gas field lies in Block 48/19a in the Southern North Sea, discovered in 1968. It produces natural gas from Lower Permian Leman sandstone reservoirs. Additional satellite accumulations and tie-ins from nearby fields supplement production to the Clipper infrastructure, enhancing throughput to onshore facilities.

Facilities

The Clipper installation comprises multiple bridge-linked fixed platforms including PW (wellhead), PT (production), PC (compression), PM (metering/compression), PR (riser) and PH (accommodation). The PM module integrates gas metering, bulk liquid knock-out, and compression stages to condition gas for export. Gas from subsea and platform wells is routed to central separators, dehydrated, and metered before compression to match pipeline specifications for export to the Bacton Gas Terminal. Compression trains are typically driven by gas turbines with associated coolers and scrubbers. Control and safety systems include SCADA integration with onshore facilities, fire & gas detection, and redundant power generation. Produced water handling and chemical injection systems support flow assurance. Metering ensures fiscal measurement prior to export, and the cluster supports receiving gas from several satellite fields, integrating processing within a compact hub design.
