Carrack QA

Carrack QA is an unmanned fixed steel platform installed in 2003 in the Carrack gas field in the UK Southern North Sea. It hosts wellheads and export manifolding for gas production and ties into the Clipper complex infrastructure for offshore processing and export via Bacton. The design supports remote operation with minimal onboard processing.

Field

The Carrack field lies in Blocks 49/9 and adjacent blocks of the Southern North Sea, discovered in 1999 with first production in 2003. It is a conventional Rotliegend sandstone gas reservoir developed with a small NUI structure tied into regional infrastructure, feeding gas to the central Clipper hub and onward to shore.

Facilities

Carrack QA comprises a steel jacket with topsides hosting multiple production well slots, Xmas trees, manifolds and subsea tie-ins. There is no significant separation or compression at the platform; produced gas flows via a subsea pipeline (~82-km) to the Clipper PM platform and the main Clipper processing complex, where condensate is separated and gas is conditioned and dehydrated for export via the Bacton Gas Terminal. Onboard utilities include remotely operated safety shutdown valves, instrument power and control for well monitoring, and chemical injection for hydrate/corrosion control. The installation is unmanned and controlled via subsea umbilicals and remote SCADA, with periodic maintenance access by helicopter. Flow assurance systems include pigging facilities and corrosion inhibition. Safety systems integrate ESD logic and gas detection for remote shutdown.
