Calder

The Calder platform is a fixed normally unmanned wellhead installation in the Calder gas field in the UK's East Irish Sea, installed in ~2003. It hosts gas well slots with basic manifolding and ties gas into the Rivers onshore gas processing terminal at Barrow-in-Furness via subsea export pipeline. It has a helideck and power provided by an electrical cable from nearby installations.

Field

The Calder field forms part of the Rivers cluster of gas accumulations in Blocks 110/2b and adjacent blocks. Gas is produced from multiple reservoirs including Crossans and Darwen, with first gas delivered in late 2004. The field comprises conventional gas in sandstone reservoirs developed via platform wells and subsea tiebacks feeding to the Calder host, with export via a dedicated 24-inch pipeline to shore.

Facilities

The Calder platform is a normally unattended steel jacket structure supporting several well slots with Xmas trees and a basic manifold. There is no significant on-platform processing; gas is piped to the Rivers onshore terminal where separation, sweetening and dehydration occur before entry to the national grid. Utilities include remote safety shutdown (ESD), instrument power circuits, basic control instrumentation and chemical injection points for corrosion/hydrate control. Electrical power is supplied by subsea cable from a nearby installation, reducing the need for local generation. Flow assurance relies on methanol or inhibitor injection controlled remotely or by visiting crew. The platform integrates fire & gas detection and automatic shutdown systems complying with UKCS safety standards. Helicopter access is provided via a helideck/landing area for periodic maintenance and intervention.
