Beryl A Flare

The Beryl A Flare Tower is a dedicated flare support structure bridge-linked to the main Beryl Alpha platform in the northern North Sea. Installed contemporaneously with the Beryl field infrastructure in the mid-1970s, its primary role is to safely combust excess hydrocarbon gas during processing operations and provide an elevated, controlled flare location away from the main decks.

Field

The Beryl oil field, located in Block 9/13a of the UK North Sea, produces oil and associated gas from Triassic and Jurassic sandstone reservoirs. Discovered in 1972, Beryl has been developed using major fixed platforms with subsea tie-backs. Beryl A serves as the central hub.

Facilities

The flare tower is a steel structure connected via a bridge to the Beryl Alpha Condeep platform. It supports elevated flare tips, relief systems and associated piping to safely burn off surplus gas from separation and compression activities on the main platform. As part of the broader Beryl A complex, it interfaces with the primary processing plant which includes multiphase separators, condensate stabilizers and gas compression feeding export lines to the SAGE system. The tower's utilities focus on safe flare combustion (assist gas, purge systems), platform structural support and accommodation of flame radiation distances from living quarters and primary process modules. Its design facilitates regulatory compliance with emissions control and emergency relief scenarios, with routine inspection and maintenance carried out from the main platform.
