Magnus

Magnus is a large fixed steel drilling and production platform in the UK Northern North Sea (Block-211/12), commissioned in the early 1980s. It handles primary oil and associated gas production from the Magnus and Magnus South accumulations, with integrated processing and export infrastructure tied into regional pipelines.

Field

The Magnus field is a major UK oil and gas reservoir discovered in 1974 in Block-211/12. It produces oil with associated gas from Late Jurassic sandstone reservoirs. First oil occurred in 1983. The field has substantial recoverable reserves and has been developed around a single large jacket platform with subsea tiebacks.

Facilities

The Magnus platform's steel jacket supports integrated quarters, drilling and production facilities. Wells drilled from the platform deliver multiphase fluids to dual processing trains where oil, gas and water are separated. Oil is stabilized and metered before export via pipeline to the Ninian Central platform and onward through the Brent System to the Sullom Voe terminal. Associated gas is conditioned (dehydration/compression) and exported via the Northern Leg Gas Pipeline into the UK gas network. Utilities include power generation (gas turbines), firewater systems, chemical injection for corrosion/hydrate control, produced water treatment, and control rooms for operations and safety systems. Subsea control systems and manifold tiebacks enable satellite reservoir integration. Accommodation modules support personnel rotations, and safety systems include emergency shutdown, gas detection, and lifeboats.
