Judy Riser

The Judy Riser Platform is a fixed steel riser and processing structure in the J-Area of the UK Central North Sea linked to the main Judy production platform. Installed in the mid-1990s, it receives production from adjacent installations and subsea tie-backs such as the Jasmine development for riser reception and initial processing before onward handling at Judy.

Field

The J-Area fields include Judy, Joanne, Jade and Jasmine accumulations in Blocks 30/7 and 30/6/30/12 of the Central North Sea. Discovered in the 1970s-1990s, these reservoirs produce oil and gas from Palaeocene, Triassic and Chalk sequences. The platform complex was developed as a centralised processing hub with subsea and riser installations tied into Judy.

Facilities

The Judy Riser Platform supports well risers and reception facilities for hydrocarbons from nearby subsea developments, notably the Jasmine field, with flowlines and umbilicals connecting into its manifolds. Its primary function is to transition multiphase fluids from subsea infrastructure to the Judy processing topsides. Separation equipment on the riser platform handles initial phase segregation, flash gas management, and cooling before sending fluids to Judy for full processing. Judy processes oil and gas from its own wells and tied-back sources, with crude exported via the Norpipe system to Teesside and gas exported through the Central Area Transmission System (CATS). Riser utilities include power, control umbilicals, chemical dosing for hydrate and corrosion control, and safety systems linked to Judy's central control. The riser platform facilitates drilling support, hanger systems for risers, and structural capacity for flowline interfaces. Integrated fire and gas detection, emergency shutdown and lifeboat systems align with UKCS safety standards, ensuring stable long-term riser operations feeding into the central Judy hub.
