Forties FA
Forties Alpha (FA) is a fixed steel jacket drilling, production and processing platform in the Forties oilfield of the Central North Sea, first installed in June-1974. It handles crude oil and associated gas, hosting wellheads, processing trains and export facilities. It also receives tie-backs and exports to the Forties Pipeline System to Cruden Bay. FA is connected by subsea/riser links to other Forties platforms.

Field
The Forties oilfield, discovered in 1970 and brought onstream in 1975, is one of the UK North Sea's largest oil accumulations. Reservoirs are Paleocene Forties Formation sandstones containing highly productive crude. Multiple platforms (FA, FB, FC, FD, FE) were built to exploit the field's resources, with Charlie acting as the central gathering hub.
Facilities
Forties Alpha's jacket supports drilling slots and production wells tied into topside manifolds. It contains multiphase separation trains to segregate oil, gas and water. Stabilized crude is metered and exported via the Forties Pipeline System (FPS) to Cruden Bay and onward to processing at Kinneil; gas is dehydrated and compressed for export or field fuel. FA hosts accommodation, power generation (gas turbines), HVAC, instrument air, and utility systems. It interfaces with other Forties installations: Charlie centralizes exports and receives flows via 20", 14" and 8" inter-platform pipelines; Bravo and Echo export unprocessed fluids to Charlie or Alpha for handling. Chemical injection systems manage hydrate and corrosion risks. Fire and gas detection, emergency shutdown and lifeboat systems are integrated for safety. Satellite tie-backs (e.g., Bacchus, Aviat) deliver hydrocarbons into FA's processing system, with control and monitoring integrated across the field.
