Everest North Riser

The Everest North Riser Platform (CATS Riser) is a fixed steel structure serving as the offshore riser termination and gathering point for the Central Area Transmission System pipeline in the Central North Sea. Installed in the early 1990s, it is bridge-linked to North Everest and routes gas and condensate into export pipelines.

Field

Serving the Everest gasfield and adjacent Central North Sea producers, the riser platform is integral to transporting hydrocarbons from fields including North Everest into the CATS pipeline to Teesside. It does not host full processing but aggregates conditioned fluids for export. The CATS system collects gas from multiple fields for transport to onshore terminals.

Facilities

The riser platform's primary function is to receive conditioned gas and condensate from North Everest and related tie-ins and provide a stable connection to the CATS export pipeline. It includes riser interfaces, metering, emergency shutdown and isolation valves, and structural support for inlet/outlet piping. It is connected by a bridge to the North Everest production platform, which houses accommodation, processing and power utilities; the riser platform itself has limited utilities and relies on North Everest for power and control services. The CATS riser integrates pipeline infrastructure, enabling gas export via the 404-km CATS line to the onshore processing terminal at Teesside, and condensate export via a subsea connection to the Forties system to Cruden Bay/Kinneil. Safety systems include emergency shutdown, flare and gas detection correlated with North Everest control systems. Its design focuses on stable long-term service as a pipeline gathering and export node.
