A wellhead protector platform (WPP) within the Captain field complex in the UK North Sea, installed for production in 1997. Field
The Captain field lies ~145 km northeast of Aberdeen in the Outer Moray Firth, discovered in 1977. It is a hydrocarbon field producing oil, gas and condensate from conventional reservoir rocks. The field's development includes multiple platforms and subsea manifolds tied into an FPSO.
Facilities
The WPP platform provides structural support around a cluster of wells, offering protection and housing drilling slots tied into the Captain complex. It connects to bridge-linked platforms and the FPSO vessel, with flowlines and umbilicals conveying hydrocarbons. The Captain FPSO handles primary separation, storage and offload to shuttle tankers; gas export uses subsea pipelines to the Frigg UK Gas Transportation System with onward delivery to St. Fergus. Utility systems on the WPP include power, control, and well support services. The installation is designed for safe well access, pressure management and integration into the broader Captain processing and export system.
