Prelude receives gas and condensate from seven subsea wells connected through manifolds, four flowlines approximately four kilometres long, riser-base manifolds, flexible risers and electro-hydraulic control umbilicals. The subsea system routes untreated reservoir fluids directly to the vessel; no fixed offshore processing platform or export trunkline is used. Fourteen topside process modules provide inlet separation, feed-gas treatment, dehydration, condensate stabilisation, LPG extraction and natural-gas liquefaction. The ship-shaped facility is approximately 488 metres long and 74 metres wide. Segregated hull tanks provide about 436,000 cubic metres of combined LNG, LPG and condensate storage. LNG and LPG carriers berth alongside the vessel, while condensate tankers use the installed offshore cargo-transfer arrangements. This direct side-by-side export concept eliminates a separate offshore storage unit and permanent product pipeline to shore. Prelude is connected to an internal turret held by sixteen mooring lines secured to seabed piles. The hull weathervanes around the turret while production risers and umbilicals remain connected. Permanent utilities include gas-turbine power generation, seawater-lift and cooling systems, process and fiscal metering, chemical injection, flare and pressure relief, firewater, fire-and-gas detection, emergency shutdown, subsea control, marine systems and accommodation for more than 200 personnel. Fully loaded displacement is approximately 600,000 tonnes. The installation was designed to remain moored at the field for at least 25 years and to withstand the Browse Basin’s cyclonic conditions.
