Ekofisk K's principal role is handling large-scale water injection into the field's reservoir system. It receives treated seawater and injects it through dedicated wells to maintain reservoir drive and enhance oil recovery. Water injection activities are coordinated with other Ekofisk II facilities and subsea templates. The platform's utilities include seawater treatment and injection pumps, power generation, control and monitoring systems linked into Ekofisk's central control infrastructure. While it may include limited wellheads for injection and perhaps minor production, its infrastructure is oriented toward maintaining reservoir pressure, supporting ongoing offshore production. Produced fluids continue to be handled and exported through central process platforms (e.g., Ekofisk J) and exported via the Norpipe systems to onshore terminals.
