Valhall Flanke Nord

Valhall Flanke Nord is a normally unmanned wellhead platform on the northern flank of the Valhall oil field in the southern Norwegian North Sea, installed in 2004 to access peripheral reservoir segments. It ties back via flowline and control umbilical to central Valhall facilities.

Field

The Valhall field produces oil from chalk reservoirs of the Upper Cretaceous Tor and Hod formations. Flank platforms supplement central production by accessing additional reservoir volumes distant from the core field, improving sweep and reserves recovery.

Facilities

Valhall Flanke Nord hosts wellheads and supporting equipment for production wells drilled laterally into the flank reservoir. Fluids are produced through subsea flowlines to bridge-linked processing platforms at the Valhall complex where separation, stabilisation, and export functions occur. The platform includes jack-up well slots with Xmas trees and control systems tied to central processing and control hubs. Its unmanned design minimises onboard utilities, relying on remote power and control via umbilicals, and periodic maintenance visits by helicopter. Tie-back infrastructure comprises flowlines, communication cables and safety systems coordinating with the main Valhall platforms. Produced oil and gas are routed to central separators on Valhall PH, then exported via pipeline to Ekofisk (oil) and Norpipe (gas). The structure features corrosion protection, structural robustness for weather and wave loads, and emergency shutdown provisions integrated into the wider North Sea field management system.
