Kårstø
Kårstø is a large onshore natural gas and condensate processing complex near Susort in Rogaland, Norway. Operational since 1985, it receives rich gas and condensate from northern North Sea fields via Statpipe and Åsgard Transport, separates and fractionates into methane, ethane, propane, butanes, naphtha and stabilised condensate, and exports products to European markets and by ship.

Field
Kårstø handles hydrocarbons from ~30 offshore fields including Statfjord, Åsgard and Sleipner. Its processing trains strip liquids and condense components for storage, with dry gas fed into pipeline networks like Statpipe and Europipe II. Propane and other liquids are exported globally by ship.
Facilities
The Kårstø complex comprises multiple separation and fractionation trains for rich gas and condensate arriving from offshore pipelines. Facilities separate methane (dry gas), ethane, propane, isobutane, normal butane, naphtha and stabilised condensate. Propane is stored in large underground caverns; other liquids are held in tanks for ship export. Dry gas is exported via major pipelines including Statpipe and Europipe II to Germany and beyond. Utilities include power generation (primarily fuel gas), compressors, heat recovery, water and effluent systems, and comprehensive control rooms. The plant's control systems manage 24/7 operations, emissions monitoring and safety shutdowns. Kårstø also hosts fractionation units for ethane and condensate, and interfaces with midstream networks for broad European distribution.
