34/7 HY01

34/7 HY01 is a floating offshore wind turbine forming part of the Hywind Tampen project in the Norwegian North Sea. Installed between 2022 and 2023, it is a spar-buoy floating wind turbine supplying electrical power to nearby oil and gas installations. The unit generates renewable electricity and exports power via subsea cables to offshore platforms.

Field

Hywind Tampen is located in the northern North Sea, primarily within blocks 34/7 and 33/6. It is not a hydrocarbon field but a dedicated offshore wind development designed to supply power to the Snorre and Gullfaks oil and gas fields, reducing emissions from gas-turbine power generation.

Facilities

HY01 consists of a floating spar-type foundation supporting a large offshore wind turbine rated at approximately 8 MW. The structure is anchored to the seabed using a three-line catenary mooring system. Power generated by the turbine is transmitted via dynamic inter-array cables to an offshore electrical infrastructure and onward to the Snorre and Gullfaks platforms. The turbine includes standard offshore wind systems such as nacelle-mounted generators, yaw and pitch control, condition monitoring, and remote supervisory control. No hydrocarbon processing or storage systems are present. Utilities are limited to turbine electrical systems, control and communication equipment, and safety monitoring. The design allows for motion decoupling from waves and wind while maintaining stable power delivery under harsh North Sea conditions.
