Johan Sverdrup P1

Johan Sverdrup P1 is a fixed steel processing platform installed in 2019 as the main oil processing hub for the initial phase of the Johan Sverdrup development. It handles primary oil processing and export and is bridge-linked to the drilling and living quarters platforms.

Field

The Johan Sverdrup oil field is located in the Norwegian North Sea on the Utsira High. It produces from large, high-quality Jurassic sandstone reservoirs. The field is developed in phases using fixed installations to support long-term, high-volume oil production.

Facilities

P1 performs the main oil processing functions for Phase 1 of the field. Facilities include inlet separation, oil stabilization, produced water treatment, and water injection support. Fluids from development wells drilled from the DP platform are routed to P1 for processing. Stabilized crude oil is exported via subsea pipeline to the Mongstad terminal onshore. Produced water is treated and reinjected or discharged according to design criteria. The platform operates with power supplied from shore, eliminating offshore gas turbines and reducing emissions. Utilities include control and automation systems, safety shutdown systems, fire and gas detection, and chemical injection. P1 was designed for expansion and integration with Phase 2, allowing additional processing capacity to be added through the later P2 platform while maintaining stable long-term operations.
