Johan Sverdrup DP is a fixed steel drilling platform installed in 2019 as part of the Phase 1 development of the Johan Sverdrup field in the Norwegian North Sea. Field
The Johan Sverdrup field is located on the Utsira High in the Norwegian North Sea. It produces oil from Upper Jurassic sandstone reservoirs, primarily the Draupne and Hugin formations. The field is one of the largest discoveries on the Norwegian continental shelf and is developed using multiple fixed platforms with phased expansion.
Facilities
The drilling platform is equipped with a high-capacity drilling package designed for long-reach and multi-well operations. It supports both development drilling and well intervention activities for oil producers and water injectors across the field. Wells are drilled through fixed well slots and completed for routing to the processing platforms via bridge-linked flowlines. The platform includes drilling mud systems, cementing facilities, cuttings handling, and well control equipment. Utilities such as power, control systems, and safety systems are shared across the Johan Sverdrup complex, with electricity supplied from shore. The DP platform does not perform hydrocarbon processing; instead, produced fluids are routed to P1 and P2 for separation and stabilization. The installation is designed for continuous drilling campaigns over several decades, supporting the long-term development strategy of the field.
