Gdansk is not tied to a single hydrocarbon field but acts as a strategic energy gateway for Poland and Central Europe. Its terminals connect imported crude, refined fuels, and regasified LNG to inland refineries and the national gas transmission system, enabling secure and diversified energy supply.
Facilities
The Gdansk energy hub includes crude oil terminals, petroleum product handling facilities, and a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) LNG terminal under construction. Pipelines link the terminals to inland refineries and the national gas grid. The port is equipped for very large crude carriers (VLCCs), storage tanks, metering stations, pumps, and jetty infrastructure. Utilities include power for pumping, instrumentation, fire and safety systems, and communications. The FSRU system will regasify LNG for distribution via pipelines to Poland's National Transmission System, with capacity of roughly 6.1-billion-m³ per year. Ongoing upgrades aim to expand liquid fuel handling capacity to ~49-million tonnes/year. The hub integrates environmental monitoring, corrosion protection, and safety controls in compliance with EU and national regulations. Gdansk's role as a long-term stable node in both crude and gas supply chains ensures critical energy security and cross-border distribution in the Baltic region.
