Ivar Aasen
Ivar Aasen is a fixed offshore production platform in the North Sea producing both oil and gas. It started production in 2016 and is a key installation targeting hydrocarbons from the Ivar Aasen field with processing and export capabilities. Field
The Ivar Aasen field lies on the Utsira High in the central North Sea. Its reservoirs are Jurassic sandstones containing oil with associated gas. Named after a Norwegian linguist, the field was discovered in 2008 and developed with a conventional fixed platform tied to subsea wells and connected into broader export infrastructure.
Facilities
The Ivar Aasen platform includes production, injection, and support wells tied back to topside processing facilities that separate oil, gas, and water. It features separators, booster compression, and export interfaces for oil and gas. Oil is stabilised and exported via pipeline to market hubs, and gas exports tie into offshore transmission systems. The platform's utilities include power distribution sourced from onshore cables via the Utsira High grid, reducing onboard gas turbine use, along with water and gas injection systems, flare networks, living quarters, control and safety systems, and metering infrastructure. Subsea templates and flowlines connect satellite wells to the main platform. Designed for multi-decade operation, the installation supports steady export of oil and gas with redundancy in processing trains and power distribution.
