Heidrun FSU

Heidrun FSU is the floating storage unit permanently moored at the Heidrun field in the Norwegian Sea since 2015. It serves primarily as an oil storage and offloading vessel for crude produced at the Heidrun field. The unit complements the Heidrun platform and enables shuttle tanker export of oil while gas is exported via pipeline systems.

Field

The Heidrun field lies on Haltenbanken in the Norwegian Sea, discovered in 1985 and producing oil and associated gas since 1995. It produces from Jurassic sandstone reservoirs with both oil and gas components. The field's crude is naphthenic with moderate API, and gas is exported via pipelines to shore. The FSU primarily supports oil storage and export.

Facilities

Heidrun's FSU is a permanently moored storage and offloading vessel integrated with the primary tension-leg platform production system. Oil produced and separated on the Heidrun TLP is routed to the FSU's storage tanks. Shuttle tankers periodically moor to load crude for export, while gas and some condensate are routed via subsea pipelines: gas through Haltenpipe and Åsgard Transport System to onshore terminals. The FSU houses storage tanks, ballast control systems, mooring spread, and offloading gear such as tandem and side-by-side systems for shuttle tankers. Utility systems include fire and safety systems, transfer pumps, metering and custody transfer equipment. The Heidrun FSU is designed for long-term stationing in a harsh North Sea environment with redundancy for essential systems.
