Draugen FSL

Draugen FSL refers to the subsea floating loading (FSL) system used to export stabilized oil from the Draugen field in the Norwegian Sea via shuttle tanker. It is not a production platform but part of the export infrastructure connected to the main Draugen concrete fixed facility.

Field

The Draugen field produces oil and associated gas from Jurassic reservoirs. Oil is stabilised on the fixed platform and then exported using the subsea FSL system to shuttle tankers. Gas is sent via pipeline to the Åsgard Transport System (Ã…TS) to onshore terminals.

Facilities

The Draugen FSL system comprises seabed bases for flowlines from the main platform, vertical risers kept buoyant by subsurface buoys, swivel arrangements allowing tankers to weathervane, and flexible hoses for crude transfer. Installed subsea, FSL supports continuous export of oil without a dedicated surface buoy or secondary platform; navigation and positioning systems ensure safe tanker rendezvous. The infrastructure integrates with the Draugen platform's export flowlines, control systems for load monitoring, emergency shutdowns, and subsea metering equipment. Utility systems are minimal compared with a platform but include subsea communications, valve control umbilicals, and riser support structures designed for North Sea conditions. The FSL is engineered for reliability and pigging capability of export lines.
