Field
CATS gathers gas from numerous Central North Sea fields tied into the pipeline (e.g., Everest, Lomond, Armada hubs). The system aggregates these flows for processing and delivery into the UK National Transmission System (NTS). It is a midstream infrastructure rather than a production field.
Facilities
The CATS system comprises: an offshore riser platform (CRP) in Block-22/10a linked by a bridge to the North Everest platform, serving as a collection hub for incoming gas and condensate; a 404-km, 36-inch subsea pipeline transporting gas from the CRP to landfall at Coatham Sands; and the CATS terminal at Seal Sands near Teesside, UK. The terminal has multiple gas processing trains (two trains ~17-Msm³/d each) to remove contaminants and condition gas for entry into the UK NTS, with condensate and LPG streams separated for export to adjacent facilities. Export utilities include metering systems, pressure regulation, pigging facilities, safety shutdown systems, and SCADA-integrated control for continuous operations. The CRP's manifold and riser systems manage flow from tie-in hubs; at the terminal, inbound gas is treated (e.g., removal of particulates, mercury, acid gases) and metered before flow to the transmission grid.
