Dunkerque LNG Terminal consists of large LNG storage tanks, regasification units, and berthing facilities capable of accommodating LNG carriers. The facility unloads cryogenic LNG, stores it at ultra-low temperatures, and then regasifies it to meet grid specifications before injection into European transmission networks. Onsite utilities include boil-off management, vaporisers, compressors and control systems for pipeline interfacing. The terminal's connection to Franpipe enables Norwegian offshore gas to be delivered, measured, quality-checked and conditioned before onward transmission. It fulfils critical functions such as liquid removal, pressure regulation, and flow control; safety systems include emergency shutdowns, gas detection and firewater systems. Although land-based, Dunkerque is integral to offshore gas export infrastructure, serving multiple energy supply routes and supporting Europe's strategic gas imports from the Norwegian continental shelf.
