G16a-A

G16a-A is a fixed normally unmanned gas wellhead platform in Block G16a of the Dutch sector of the North Sea, installed circa 2005. It serves as a primary production and gathering node for the G16a gas area, routing natural gas into nearby processing infrastructure via subsea pipelines. It is connected physically to other G-block platforms including G16a-B and G17d installations.

Field

The G16a gas area lies north of the Dutch island of Terschelling in the Southern North Sea, developed for conventional natural gas. Reservoirs are typical shallow-water Rotliegendes sandstones encountered in multiple G-quadrant blocks. Field development uses a network of satellite platforms and subsea tie-backs feeding to central processing points.

Facilities

G16a-A comprises multiple production wellheads drilled into the G16a reservoir with associated Xmas trees and flow control. Fluids are gathered and routed via subsea flowlines to nearby processing hubs (e.g., G17d-AP) for separation and compression before export. The platform supports remote operation systems, including SCADA communications, emergency shutdown, and fire/gas detection. Electrical power is provided by onboard generators sized for essential loads. Utility systems include instrument air, basic cooling, and safety systems. Export infrastructure consists of subsea pipelines linking to processing/transport systems, integrating with the Dutch Continental Shelf gas grid. Periodic maintenance by service vessels ensures integrity of topsides, risers, and subsea components.
