Field
The K8 field, in Block K8, produces conventional natural gas from Rotliegendes sandstone, part of the K7-K12 gas province. Discovered circa 1970, the field supports multiple platforms and satellite structures tied to the central K8-FA-1, handling high-calorific gas. Its development reflects early offshore gas exploitation in the Dutch North Sea.
Facilities
K8-FA-1 hosts drilling and production wells, receiving both its own wells and tie-backs from satellites K8-FA-2 and K8-FA-3. The topsides include multiphase separation trains for gas, condensate, and water; gas dehydration and compression modules; and export metering. Post-2000 operations simplified to export dry gas via a major pipeline to the K14-FA-1C processing/compression hub. Export routes to shore integrate into the Dutch gas grid. Utilities encompass onboard power generation (typically gas turbine sets with redundancy), water treatment and injection support, and integrated control systems for unmanned or supervisory control from nearby hubs. Accommodation is typically located on adjacent linked platforms (e.g., K8-FA-1P). Structural design supports drilling derricks, processing modules, and helideck facilities.
