Kaombo Norte forms one half of the dual-hub Kaombo subsea development. Gengibre, Gindungo and Caril are connected to the FPSO by production flowlines, water-injection lines, gas-service lines, risers and control umbilicals within a project-wide network of approximately 300 kilometres. The complete Kaombo development comprises 59 subsea wells and numerous subsea manifolds; publicly available project descriptions do not consistently allocate every well individually between Norte and Sul. Production is gathered on the seabed and routed through the FPSO’s internal turret, which carries the fluid-transfer and control connections while allowing the converted tanker to weathervane. Fourteen topsides modules provide oil, gas and water separation, crude stabilisation, gas compression, water handling and high-pressure water injection. The facility also includes production and export metering, chemical injection, flare and relief systems, electrical generation, subsea controls, fire-and-gas detection, emergency shutdown, firewater, marine utilities and accommodation. Associated gas is compressed and exported through the Kaombo gas system towards the Angola LNG plant at Soyo; process gas is also retained for onboard fuel. The converted VLCC hull stores approximately 1.7 million barrels of stabilised crude. Export tankers moor astern and receive oil through the permanent tandem-offloading arrangement and floating flexible hose. The internal turret is secured by chain and polyester mooring components suited to the approximately 1,650-metre site. Kaombo Norte combines subsea reception, processing, storage, utilities, accommodation and tanker loading within one permanently moored vessel.
