Hai Thach

A fixed wellhead-and-processing development for high-pressure gas and condensate in Vietnam’s Nam Con Son Basin. First gas was achieved in August 2013, with commercial production following that year. In roughly 130–145 metres of water, Hai Thach-1 feeds the PQP-HT central production-and-quarters platform, which also receives Moc Tinh production. Gas enters the Nam Con Son pipeline system; condensate is exported through a dedicated FSO.

Hai Thach lies in Block 05-2 offshore southern Vietnam and forms the northern part of the integrated Hai Thach–Moc Tinh development. It is a large, geologically complex gas-condensate field on the Hai Thach horst. Reservoirs occur in numerous stacked Upper, Middle and Lower Miocene sandstone intervals, including deep-water turbidite sands such as MMF30. The development concept uses fixed wellhead platforms, a central processing hub, interfield pipelines and floating condensate storage.

Facilities

The permanent Bien Dong 1 facilities serving Hai Thach comprise the Hai Thach-1 wellhead platform, the Moc Tinh-1 wellhead platform, the PQP-HT central production-and-quarters platform, the PTSC Bien Dong 01 condensate FSO and two principal pipeline systems. Each wellhead platform weighs approximately 10,000 tonnes. PQP-HT weighs about 21,000 tonnes, includes living quarters for about 70 people, and acts as the common processing, compression and control hub. Hai Thach well fluids are gathered at HT-1 and routed to PQP-HT; Moc Tinh fluids reach the same hub through an approximately 20-kilometre interfield pipeline. On PQP-HT, the gas-condensate stream is separated. Export gas passes through installed dehydration equipment to meet pipeline dew-point requirements, then enters two compressor trains before pipeline export. The permanent 12-inch and 20-inch pipeline systems connect the two fields and tie the processing platform into the Nam Con Son gas-transmission network for delivery ashore. Separated condensate follows a distinct route to the dedicated FSO. Project documentation describes two 7-inch subsea flexible flowlines and risers between the Hai Thach facilities and the vessel, with transfer through the FSO turret swivel. The arrangement permits receipt, recirculation and storage of condensate before offloading to shuttle tankers. PQP-HT contains the central control room for the processing and wellhead installations. The development is notable for its fixed-jacket architecture in approximately 130–145 metres of water and for concentrating treatment of two high-pressure gas-condensate fields on one central platform while retaining separate wellhead structures and floating liquid storage.
