John Agyekum Kufuor FPSO
John Agyekum Kufuor is a converted, double-hull FPSO serving the Sankofa and Gye Nyame developments within Ghana’s Offshore Cape Three Points project. First oil was achieved in May 2017 and non-associated gas followed in 2018. Spread-moored approximately 60 kilometres offshore in roughly 1,000 metres of water, it processes oil and gas, stores crude for tanker export and sends gas by pipeline to Sanzule.

The Sankofa Main, Sankofa East and Gye Nyame fields lie in the offshore Tano–Cape Three Points Basin of western Ghana. Oil occurs principally in Cenomanian deep-water sandstone reservoirs, while major non-associated gas accumulations occur in Campanian turbidite sandstones. The integrated, large oil-and-gas development uses subsea producers and injection wells connected to one FPSO, with treated domestic gas exported to shore.
Facilities
The complete Offshore Cape Three Points development was planned around 18 subsea wells. The Cenomanian oil phase comprises 14 wells: eight oil producers, three water injectors and three associated-gas injectors. The non-associated-gas phase added deep-water gas producers in the Sankofa Main, Sankofa East and Gye Nyame structures. Subsea trees, manifolds, production and injection flowlines, flexible risers and electro-hydraulic umbilicals connect these wells to the John Agyekum Kufuor FPSO. Installed topsides provide high-high-pressure and high-pressure separation, oil treatment, produced-water handling, produced-water handling, seawater treatment and water injection. Gas facilities include flash-gas compression, non-associated-gas reception and separation, gas-injection compression, dehydration using triethylene glycol and TEG regeneration. Treated gas supports fuel and injection duties and is conditioned for export. Permanent systems also include crude and gas metering, chemical injection, flare and pressure relief, onboard electrical generation, integrated process and subsea control, emergency shutdown, fire-and-gas detection, firewater, seawater lift, cargo handling and accommodation. The double-hull vessel has a 12-point spread-mooring system and crude-storage capacity exceeding 1.4 million barrels. It consequently remains at a fixed heading rather than weathervaning around a turret. Stabilised oil is stored onboard and offloaded to tankers. Non-associated gas leaves through the approximately 63-kilometre OCTP gas export pipeline to the Sanzule Onshore Receiving Facility, before entering Ghana’s Western Corridor gas network.
