Front Runner is a deepwater tension leg platform (TLP) in the Gulf of Mexico, installed in 2004. It produces oil and gas from both platform wells and subsea tie-backs, functioning as a host facility with direct export connections to regional pipeline systems.

Field

The Front Runner field is located in Green Canyon, Gulf of Mexico, producing from Miocene sandstone reservoirs. The field is moderate in size and characterised by multiple reservoir compartments typical of deepwater turbidite systems. Development includes both direct platform drilling and subsea tie-backs from nearby accumulations.

Facilities

Front Runner is based on a tension leg platform with a floating hull tethered to the seabed by vertical tendons, allowing support of dry-tree wells. Production wells are drilled from the platform and supplemented by subsea wells tied back via flowlines and manifolds. Fluids are transported through risers to topside processing facilities where separation into oil, gas, and water occurs. Oil is stabilised and exported via pipeline, while gas is compressed and routed through offshore gas networks. Produced water is treated and discharged or reinjected. The facility includes water injection systems for reservoir pressure support. Subsea infrastructure includes umbilicals for control, chemical injection, and communications. Power is generated onboard using gas turbines. The TLP configuration enables direct well intervention and supports efficient long-term reservoir management, while integration with subsea tie-backs maximises use of processing capacity and export infrastructure.
