Intro

The Clair Ridge QU platform is a fixed quarters and utilities platform installed in the Clair Ridge development west of Shetland, UK North Sea. Installed in 2015 as part of the second-phase project, it provides living accommodation, power generation and utilities support. It is bridge-linked to the Clair Ridge DP platform and tied to export pipelines.

Field

Clair is a giant offshore oilfield located ~75-km west of Shetland in the UK Waters with Devonian-Carboniferous continental sandstone reservoirs. Discovered in 1977 and with primary production from the first phase since 2005, the Ridge development targets ~640-million barrels of recoverable oil and gas using extended drilling and water-injection schemes.

Facilities

The QU platform comprises multiple large deck modules for living quarters, utilities and power generation. Its accommodation module houses crew facilities, control rooms, and associated life-support systems for operations. Utilities modules include gas-turbine driven power generation, HVAC, water treatment, and waste management systems to support DP operations. The platform supplies electrical power and instrument air to the DP via the inter-platform bridge. Bridge-linked structural integration carries power, communication, and service lines. Onboard systems include fire and gas detection, emergency shutdown, and control networks tied to the DP. Redundant power trains and utility loops ensure reliable support for drilling and production activities. The QU also supports chemical and reagent storage for flow assurance, water injection control, and well services. Export infrastructure ties into shared export pipelines for oil and gas to shore.
