Intro
Millom West is a fixed, small unmanned platform in the East Irish Sea developed in the Millom gas project, part of the Rivers/Calder/Dalton/Millom cluster. It was installed to host producing wells and export gas via a dedicated subsea pipeline to onshore processing. Production has ceased and decommissioning operations have commenced.
Field
The Millom field in the East Irish Sea comprises conventional shallow gas reservoirs developed alongside Calder and Dalton. First gas was delivered in the early 2000s, and Millom West provided satellite well access feeding into the joint export infrastructure to shore for processing and delivery to market before field closure.
Facilities
Millom West comprises a small steel jacket platform hosting wellheads, Xmas trees and basic manifolds. There is no significant hydrocarbon processing on the platform; produced gas flowed via subsea tie-in to the main export pipeline and onshore Calder/Rivers terminal facilities for dehydration and conditioning. Utilities onboard were limited to remote safety shutdown, instrument power and local controls for monitoring, with chemical injection points for corrosion/hydrate control. The installation was designed for unmanned operation with remote monitoring and periodic maintenance visits. Structural and safety systems met UKCS standards with basic fire & gas detection and ESD logic integrated into the broader field control network. Following cessation of production, removal and decommissioning work began in 2022 with heavy-lift accommodation/control vessel support.
