Intro
The Solan platform is a fixed steel jacket production installation located west of Shetland in UK Block 205/26. Installed and commissioned in 2016, it produces oil and associated gas from the Solan field. The platform carries drilling, processing, and utilities facilities and is directly connected to the Ailsa FSO for crude oil export and storage.
Field
The Solan oil field is situated in the Faroe–Shetland Basin and produces from Lower Cretaceous sandstone reservoirs. Discovered in 1991, the field is a medium-sized oil development characterized by structurally trapped hydrocarbons and developed using a single fixed platform with offshore storage.
Facilities
The Solan platform supports production and injection wells drilled from the jacket. Processing facilities include three-phase separation, oil stabilization, produced water treatment, and associated gas handling. Gas is primarily used as fuel, with surplus managed through controlled disposal systems. Produced water is treated to discharge specifications. Crude oil is stabilized and exported via pipeline to the Ailsa FSO. The platform includes water injection systems for reservoir pressure support, chemical injection for flow assurance, and heating systems suited to the oil properties. Utilities comprise gas-turbine power generation, seawater lift, firewater and deluge systems, instrument air, and integrated control and safety systems. The installation includes limited accommodation, a helideck, and maintenance facilities. The fixed steel jacket and topsides are designed for long-term operation in harsh Atlantic conditions.
