Intro
The Culzean Utilities Living Quarters (ULQ) platform is a fixed steel installation providing accommodation, utilities, and control functions for the Culzean gas field in Block 22/25a. Installed in 2019, it supports the Processing and Wellhead platforms via bridge links and serves as the operational centre of the Culzean hub.
Field
The Culzean gas field is located in the UK Central North Sea and produces HPHT gas from Triassic Skagerrak sandstone reservoirs. The field was developed as an integrated multi-platform hub to manage high pressures and large gas volumes efficiently and safely.
Facilities
The ULQ platform houses living quarters for offshore personnel, including cabins, galley, medical facilities, offices, and recreational areas. It contains the central control room overseeing processing, well operations, and utilities across the Culzean complex. Utilities include power generation via gas turbines, electrical distribution, instrument air, potable water, sewage treatment, HVAC, and communications systems. The platform supports helideck operations and emergency response coordination. Fire and gas detection, deluge systems, lifeboats, and emergency shutdown interfaces are installed to protect personnel and assets. Bridge links allow personnel movement and shared services between platforms. The ULQ plays a stable, long-term role as the living and operational backbone of the Culzean development.
