Intro
The Elgin Production, Utilities & Quarters (PUQ) platform is a central processing and accommodation hub in the Elgin–Franklin high-pressure/high-temperature complex in the Central North Sea. Installed ahead of first production in 2001, it processes gas and condensate from neighbouring wellhead platforms and provides living quarters and control functions.
Field
The Elgin–Franklin fields are adjacent HP/HT gas-condensate accumulations in the Central Graben area. Reservoirs are predominantly Upper Jurassic Fulmar sandstones at extreme pressures and temperatures. Joint development uses multiple wellhead platforms tied via bridges and flowlines to the central PUQ platform which handles bulk processing and export activities.
Facilities
The Elgin PUQ Platform houses comprehensive hydrocarbon processing facilities: inlet separation trains handling multiphase fluids from Elgin, Franklin, West Franklin, and Glenelg; gas compression and dehydration; condensate stabilization; and produced water treatment. It also contains utilities including gas-turbine power generation, water handling systems, accommodation for operations personnel, and integrated control systems. Two adjacent wellhead platforms (Elgin WHP A/B and Franklin WHP) are tied into the PUQ via a bridge and subsea flowlines respectively. The platform exports gas through the SEAL pipeline to the Bacton Gas Terminal and liquids via the Forties Pipeline System to Kinneil for stabilization and onward shipment. Supporting systems include fire and gas detection, emergency shutdown, and extensive safety systems configured to manage HP/HT fluid handling. Chemical injection manages hydrate and corrosion control, while remote well servicing is supported by mobile drilling rigs as required.
