Intro
Sleipner A is a fixed concrete offshore platform in the central North Sea on the Sleipner Øst gas and condensate field. It combines drilling, production, processing and accommodation functions and has been operational since 1993. The installation is bridged to Sleipner T (processing/CO- removal) and Sleipner R (riser/export hub) and controls nearby remotely operated platforms.
Field
The Sleipner Øst field lies on the Utsira High ~250-km west of Stavanger and began production in 1993. Discovered in 1981, it produces dry gas and condensate from Paleocene and Jurassic sandstones (Ty, Hugin and Heimdal formations). Sleipner A also handles hydrocarbons from satellite fields Sigyn, Gungne, Gudrun, Gina Krog and Utgard through tie-backs.
Facilities
Sleipner A is the central processing platform in the Sleipner area, receiving wellstreams from its own subsea templates and satellite tie-backs. The topsides include gas/condensate separation, dehydration, compression, and export metering modules. CO- removal is carried out on the adjacent Sleipner T platform, with captured CO- injected into the Utsira saline aquifer as part of long-term storage operations. Sales gas is exported via the Gassled network (Statpipe, Zeepipe, Europipe II) to continental markets; unstable condensate is piped to the onshore Kårstø terminal for stabilization and export. Sleipner A provides drilling and well intervention support for its own wells and remote control of the unmanned Sleipner B wellhead platform via umbilical. Utilities include combined power generation with partial electrification from shore, water handling for injection and ballast, flare and safety systems, and integrated field control networks coordinating with Sleipner T and Sleipner R. Accommodation and living quarters support offshore personnel. Structural design uses a concrete gravity base suited to ~80-m water depth with robust topside modules for long-term service in North Sea conditions.
