Intro
Snorre A is a tension-leg platform (TLP) combining drilling, production, processing and accommodations in the North Sea, producing mainly oil with associated gas. It began production in August 1992 and serves as the hub for Snorre B and subsea systems, stabilising Snorre/Vigdis oil before export. It ties physically via pipelines to Vigdis and Gullfaks infrastructure.
Field
The Snorre field lies in the Tampen area of the northern North Sea at ~300–350-m water depth. Discovered in 1979, it produces oil from Triassic and Lower Jurassic sandstone in the Alke, Lunde and Statfjord formations. The multi-faulted reservoir uses pressure support strategies and is one of Norway’s major fields.
Facilities
Snorre A interfaces with subsea systems SPS (20 well slots) and SEP (six templates) for production and injection. The platform separates oil and gas; oil is stabilised and sent via the Vigdis pipeline to Gullfaks A for shuttle tanker loading. All produced gas is reinjected to maximise recovery. Snorre B processes hydrocarbons and exports to Statfjord B. Utilities include power generation, produced water handling and comprehensive control systems managing subsea tie-backs and TLP moorings, with long-term structural and topside maintenance designed for North Sea conditions.
