Intro
E17a-A is a fixed production platform in the Dutch North Sea, installed around 2010. It produces natural gas with trace condensate and acts as the main gathering and processing node for the surrounding E17a field area. The platform links via subsea flowlines to satellite wells and exports gas into the Dutch transport grid.
Field
The E17a field, spanning blocks E16a, E17a, and E17b offshore the Netherlands, contains conventional natural gas in Permian and other reservoir rocks. Discovered in the 1990s and brought online in 2009, it is developed with infrastructure feeding gas into E17a-A for conditioning and onward export.
Facilities
E17a-A features multiple production well slots tied into reservoir sections of the E17a field. Topside facilities include phase separation to remove condensate and water, dehydration to reduce moisture content, and metering to quantify sales gas. Electrical generation supports process equipment, control and monitoring systems (SCADA), safety instrumentation, and utility services such as instrument air and cooling. Export pipelines connect the platform into the Dutch offshore gas transport network, typically via trunklines feeding onshore treatment and distribution. The platform design accommodates offshore environmental loads with fixed jacket support, corrosion protection, and subsea risers and flowlines engineered for long-term integrity. Routine maintenance and inspection tasks are conducted by support vessels, with emergency shutdown and fire/gas detection systems ensuring safe operation.
