Intro
F3-FB-1 is a concrete-based fixed production platform in the Dutch North Sea, commissioned in the early 1990s as part of the F3-FB oil and gas development. It produces both oil and gas from Jurassic reservoirs in the Central Graben and serves as a hub connected to accommodation facilities and an unmanned offloading tower.
Field
The F3-FB field is a Jurassic oil and gas field in the central Dutch North Sea. It comprises multiple stacked sandstone reservoirs developed via the F3-FB-1 platform, producing hydrocarbons for export; gas feeds into regional pipelines while oil is offloaded offshore.
Facilities
F3-FB-1 hosts production wells drilled into Upper Jurassic sandstone sequences, with topside equipment handling primary separation of oil, gas, and water. Processing includes three-phase separators, gas compression and dehydration, and crude stabilization to meet export specs. The platform is connected by a bridge to an accommodation module capable of housing personnel, and linked subsea to the F3-FB-1 OLT (Oil Loading Tower) which facilitates unmanned oil offloading to shuttle tankers. Electrical power generation uses integrated turbine or diesel sets sized for processing loads and utilities. Control systems include SCADA, safety shutdown, fire/gas detection, and communications. Export routes comprise subsea pipelines for gas into the NOGAT network feeding Den Helder and oil offloading via the OLT to tankers. Utility systems include instrument air, cooling water, and ballast and drainage systems. Designed for North Sea conditions, structural concrete legs provide buoyancy and stability, with corrosion protection and periodic vessel-based maintenance ensuring long-term operation.
