Intro
The Tolmount platform is a normally unmanned steel platform installed in the Tolmount gas field in the UK Southern North Sea for wet gas production. Installed around 2021, it delivers gas via the Humber Gathering System pipeline to the Easington gas terminal. It includes well slots and basic processing suited to unmanned operations.
Field
The Tolmount gas field, in Blocks 42/28c/d/e, was discovered in 2011 and developed with production facilities targeting Lower Leman Sandstone gas. The field contains ~1,000 bcf recoverable gas across main and East/Far East segments, with gas processed ashore at Easington via dedicated pipelines.
Facilities
The Tolmount NUI platform comprises a fixed jacket and topside designed for unmanned wet gas production. It typically incorporates multiple production wells (~4) drilled into the reservoir with subsea manifolds. Gas from these wells is routed through basic separation and flow conditioning modules, with metering and dehydration as required for export quality. The platform ties directly into the Humber Gathering System pipeline (~48 km 20-inch) for transport to the Easington gas terminal, where further processing and conditioning occur before entry into the UK National Transmission System. Power for platform instrumentation and control is derived from gas turbine or electrical generation units sized for unmanned facilities, with remote SCADA monitoring and control from onshore. There are minimal utilities beyond flow assurance, emergency shutdown, and safety systems, reflecting the unmanned design. Structural systems are compliant with North Sea environmental and safety standards, with corrosion protection and redundancy in critical control loops.
