Intro
Morecambe AP1 is an accommodation platform forming part of the South Morecambe Central Processing Complex (CPC) in the East Irish Sea, UKCS. Installed in the mid-1980s, it supports personnel for operations and maintenance of adjacent processing and drilling platforms. AP1 is bridge-linked to the CPP1 and DP1 platforms and serves as the living quarters hub.
Field
South Morecambe is a mature gas-condensate field in the East Irish Sea, discovered in 1974 and first producing in 1985. The reservoir comprises shallow marine sands within Permian–Triassic sequences. It is developed with multiple fixed platforms tied back to the CPC and has historically been one of the UK’s major gas supplies.
Facilities
As part of the CPC, AP1 does not host hydrocarbon processing but provides vital support infrastructure. It contains living quarters, control rooms, emergency response facilities, and utilities to sustain offshore staff on extended rotations. AP1 links via bridges and service risers to CPP1 (central processing) and DP1 (drilling). The integrated CPC processes gas and condensate from satellite fixed platforms (DP3/DP4/DP6/DP8) via subsea and pipeline tie-backs. CPP1 performs primary separation of gas and liquids, delivers gas to export pipelines toward Barrow/Rampside gas terminals, and redistributes utilities (power, control systems) to satellite platforms. AP1 houses power generation backup, water/sewage systems, HVAC for living quarters, and communications infrastructure. Emergency evacuation systems and fire-water networks are designed to meet UK offshore safety standards. The accommodation facility significantly enhances operational continuity by enabling sustained crew presence for drilling, maintenance, and processing activities.
