Intro
Statfjord B-OLS is an offshore loading system (OLS) used in the Statfjord oil field for offloading stabilized crude to shuttle tankers. Installed around 1990 and modified through subsequent campaigns, it sits subsea adjacent to the Statfjord B platform and functions as an oil export interface node.
Field
The Statfjord field is a large trans-boundary North Sea oil and gas province with concrete gravity base platforms (A, B, C). Oil produced on field platforms is stabilized and exported using offshore loading systems like OLS B to shuttle tankers and via pipeline networks.
Facilities
Statfjord B-OLS comprises subsea manifolds, riser bases, sub-surface buoys and flexible hoses to connect stabilized crude export lines with shuttle tankers. It is installed in ~146-m water depth near Statfjord B and provides an export interface separate from fixed pipeline termini. The system includes flexible risers with gooseneck swivel connections, subsea valves, emergency shutdown systems, and remote control interfaces to the Statfjord platform production control system. Statfjord OLS supports repeated tanker mooring and crude transfer cycles and integrates with fieldwide safety, leak detection, and metering systems. This arrangement allows stabilized oil handling without direct platform mooring, enhancing operational flexibility while minimizing weather exposure.
