Intro
Nansen is a deepwater spar platform located in Garden Banks Block 602 in the Gulf of Mexico. First production began in 2002. It produces oil and gas and serves as a host for subsea developments, exporting hydrocarbons via pipeline systems integrated with regional infrastructure.
Field
The Nansen Field is located in the Garden Banks area and produces from Miocene deepwater sandstone reservoirs. It forms part of a cluster of developments alongside the Boomvang field, sharing infrastructure and processing facilities to optimise recovery from multiple nearby accumulations.
Facilities
The Nansen spar is a classic deep-draft floating production platform moored in approximately 3,675 ft (1,120 m) of water. It supports both dry-tree wells drilled from the spar and subsea tie-backs from nearby fields. Production is routed through risers to topsides facilities where separation, oil stabilization, and gas compression occur. Oil is exported via pipeline to the Cameron Highway Oil Pipeline System, while gas is exported through the Texas Eastern Transmission system. Produced water is treated prior to discharge. The platform includes gas lift and water injection systems to support reservoir performance. Power is generated using gas turbines. The spar is moored using a catenary mooring system and supports steel catenary risers. Subsea infrastructure includes manifolds and umbilicals for control. The facility is designed for long-term hub operations with tie-back capability.
