Intro

Anchor is a deepwater semi-submersible production platform in the Gulf of Mexico, designed for high-pressure oil and gas processing. Sanctioned in the late 2010s, it represents a next-generation development targeting ultra-high-pressure reservoirs, with production facilities engineered to handle extreme subsurface conditions.

Field

The Anchor field lies in the Green Canyon area of the Gulf of Mexico. It targets Wilcox Formation sandstones, characterized by ultra-high pressures and temperatures. The field is a deepwater development with significant reserves, representing one of the industry’s first commercial-scale high-pressure Wilcox projects.

Facilities

The Anchor facility includes a semi-submersible floating production unit connected to multiple subsea wells. The system is designed for ultra-high-pressure production, requiring specialized wellheads, subsea trees, and flowlines rated for extreme conditions. Produced fluids are processed onboard, including multi-stage separation, gas compression, and water treatment. Oil is exported via pipeline, while gas is compressed and transported through regional gas networks. Subsea infrastructure includes manifolds, insulated flowlines, and umbilicals providing hydraulic control and chemical injection. The topsides include power generation systems, produced water reinjection capability, and advanced control systems for monitoring high-pressure operations. The design emphasizes robust materials and safety systems to manage the challenging reservoir conditions.
