Intro
Heidelberg is a deepwater tension leg platform (TLP) in the Gulf of Mexico, installed in 2016. It produces oil and gas from high-pressure reservoirs and serves as a standalone host facility with subsea wells tied back for processing and export.
Field
The Heidelberg field is located in Green Canyon, Gulf of Mexico, producing from Miocene sandstone reservoirs. The field is moderate in scale but characterised by relatively high reservoir pressures, requiring robust development design and subsea systems.
Facilities
Heidelberg is based on a tension leg platform with a floating hull tethered to the seabed by vertical tendons, supporting dry-tree wells and subsea tie-backs. Production wells are drilled from the platform and supplemented by subsea wells tied in via flowlines and manifolds. Fluids are transported through risers to topside facilities where multi-stage separation splits oil, gas, and water. Oil is stabilised and exported via the Poseidon Oil Pipeline system, while gas is compressed and exported through offshore gas pipelines. Produced water is treated prior to discharge or reinjection. Subsea infrastructure includes electro-hydraulic umbilicals for control and chemical injection. Power is generated onboard using gas turbines. The TLP configuration enables direct well intervention and efficient management of high-pressure reservoirs.
